Sweet & Spicy Meatball

The weather has been cooling off here in NC and I have been craving soups and stews like mad… But I know that my family likes some variety. So I put meatballs on the weekly meal plan but had no idea what kind of sauce should go with them.

So I talked to Mama… She always has great ideas: Meatballs that aren’t Swedish or swimming in marinara? That’s right!

Combine one pound each of ground beef and ground turkey. I also added one egg to help bind them together.

Add two handfuls of bread crumbs, 1/2 tsp of cayenne, 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp dried parsley, 1 tsp seasoning salt and some cracked black pepper. If you want more spice add more cayenne or horseradish! (I ran out of bread crumbs so I used 10 or so crackers. Make it work!)

Mix it thoroughly then roll handfuls of the mixture into balls and place on a lined cookie sheet.

All my little pretties lined up and ready for the oven that is set to 375 degrees. Let them bake for 20-30 minutes depending on the size of your meatballs.

For the sauce:
Mix 1 cup ketchup, 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar, 1 tbsp brown sugar, 2 tsp of sriracha, a splash of soy sauce and another bigger splash of Worcestershire sauce. I also added some water to help blend it all together.
Pop it in the microwave to melt the sugar and you are good to go. Your meatballs should be about ready so…

Pull them out and throw them in the sauce.

Dress them with parmesan and some more crushed red pepper if you so choose and eat up!
